The Gattons Infant School

Reading

At The Gattons Infant School, we teach reading through a phonetic approach. We follow the sequence and progression of Essential Letters and Sounds to support our teaching. Phase 1 activities are introduced into the environment from the children’s very first day at school, and synthetic phonics is taught from the second week of Reception. We teach whole class phonic sessions to raise expectations and to ensure coverage, following our detailed phonics progression document. Please take a look at our reading policy  and phonic progression document below for more in depth details.
